FROG FOLLIES STREET ROD SHOW
AUGUST 27-29, 2010
Since 1975 the E’ville Iron Street Rod Club has put on a rod run for street rod owners in August. It is held at the Vanderburgh County 4-H Center in Evansville Indiana. At the first event we had 44 street rods registered. Since that time the Frog Follies has grown to an average of over 4000 street rods each year. The event became known as the Frog Follies after the club had a bull frog race at the first event. We’ve had entries from Alaska, Australia, Canada, and all 48 continental states over the years.
There continues to be a ‘frog race’ every year. Please visit their website for more information & pictures.

GOVERNOR'S FROG JUMP
MARCH 21-23, 2008
Mark Twain's 1865 short story, The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County provided the setting. In 1928 the Calaveras County Fair at Angels Camp, California (about 100 miles east of San Francisco) brought the contest to life. The all time record jump is 21',5.75". There is a $5,000.00 prize for anyone having a frog that will jump a greater distance than the present record. Each year the first place winner receives $750.00.
This winner of this classic event will represent South Carolina at the fabled Calaveras County Frog Jump in California. Held Easter weekend, each year, there is a parade, carnival, live music, a cow drop competition, and a fireworks finale.
Springfield has been the site of the Governor' Annual Frog Jump Contest since April 5, 1969. In 1967 South Carolina's first Governor's Frog Jump contest was held. A Springfield frog won the 1968 contest. At the time, Mayor O.K. Furtick requested that Springfield be awarded the honor of hosting the 1969 event, and South Carolina General Assembly approved Mayor Furtick's request.
